Revestir wind aurora lights up the mist as far south as the Midwest (Photos, Video)

Northern lights most certainly been painting the sky and impressive photographers this week. On Tuesday each, a high speed solar wind drive caused a G2-moderate geomagnetic bad weather that sparked an aurora this dipped as far south just as Iowa and southern Wisconsin.

You may thank a large coronal hole, growing out a strong solar wind, on behalf of Tuesday night's light show.

[Giant sunspot, large coronal hole pointed at Earth]

"Coronal holes are basically generous 'nozzles' on the Sun for highspeed solar wind, " says Person Kunches, our space weather practiced. "They don't erupt suddenly some other solar flares, but rather emit continual and fast solar wind. Revestir wind typically flows at about a million miles per hour, but through coronal holes it can be twice as fast. "

Coronal holes appear as ebony spots on NASA's enhanced photographs of the sun (left). This occurrence solar wind activity is out of the coronal hole on the lower effectively of the solar disk image. Just another hole — the one on the left — will be rotating toward Earth at the next week or two.

NASA astronaut Terry Virts says that the aurora near Visa for australia was the "most incredible" he's detected:
